High-speed trains have transformed the way the world commutes – allowing workers to travel several hundreds of kilometers in mere hours. That is why Samsung Printing, which also offers innovative solutions at some of the world’s busiest airports, is now helping provide train passengers with far-reaching office functionality at some of Korea’s biggest railway hubs.
By adapting the functions of Samsung’s highly customizable MX4 multi-function printers (MFPs), Korea’s biggest train stations are now allowing passengers to print, copy, scan and fax faster, more effectively and with minimal fuss – and enabling super-convenient payment methods.
Korea’s high-speed KTX network opened to the public in 2004. Operated by national rail carrier KORAIL, it was heralded as the country’s answer to France’s TGV. The network allows super-fast overland travel for passengers travelling between the country’s biggest cities. In the first quarter of this year, the network ferried over 12,800,000 passengers to their destinations. Last year, the KTX was the backdrop for international box office smash Train to Busan.
The network’s busiest station is Seoul Station, which serves the country’s capital. But also of high importance are Daegu and Dongdaegu (East Daegu) stations. All KTX trains travelling to and from the capital and the southeast of Korea pass through one of these two hubs, which also serve the third largest metropolitan area in the country.
There is only one thing that moves faster than the KTX in Korea – and that is the speed of enterprise. Workers on the go know that if they want to truly maximize their business travel, they need to be able to access the same kind of tools that they have at hand in the office.
Trackside Work Hubs
KORAIL has recognized the need to create enhanced business travel facilities. That is why it recently decided to equip its key Seoul, Daegu and Dongdaegu stations with devices that would allow business lounge customers with the ability to access smart, hassle-free printing, scanning and faxing solutions.
To do the above, they turned to Samsung partner Inkwa Office, who, in turn, realized the importance of providing an easy-to-use payment system that would do away with time-inefficient user-registration.
Few Koreans carry cash nowadays – the country’s central bank is even considering ditching coins and banknotes. To meet modern needs, therefore, it was important for Inkwa and KORAIL to provide multiple cashless payment options. They also wanted to provide solutions that would not need onsite staffing.
Samsung stepped up to the plate, offering printers with a self-service payment system that did away with login hassles. Its MX4 devices were adapted to create self-service KIOSKs. Boasting a familiar, user-friendly Android-based interface and 24-hour service, these new KIOSKs have become an instant hit at all three stations. A straightforward sign-up process means that KIOSKs are ready to use in a flash. And with the devices’ high-level of security protection, personal information and business data always stays safe.
Inkwa Office’s CEO, Lee Hyun-woo, explains, “Samsung’s Smart Printing KIOSKs are an effective and very modern solution for consumers leading demanding, busy lifestyles.”
The new KIOSKS also make use of direct billing solutions. This completely eliminates the need for users to waste time with fiddly coins or to buy (and try not to mislay) copy cards.
KIOSKs accept a whole host of payment methods, including credit and debit cards, prepaid smartcard pay methods like T-Money and CashBee – and even smartphone mobile pay solutions.
Intuitive usability and pay options provide a major knock-on benefit for KORAIL, which does not have to deal with the extra cost and management hassle of hiring and training staff to manage the new KIOSKs.
Lee notes, “Thanks to this innovative solution, the printing services in KORAIL’s business lounges have become a big hit. KIOSKs represent a smart printing solution that offers a great level of service for everyone: from businesspeople to students and even leisure travelers.”
Green Light for Business Travel
With solutions like KORAIL’s KIOSKs, Samsung Printing helps ensure busy people’s workdays do not hit the buffers every time they have to travel by train.
Instead, smart, forward-thinking rail providers, partners and manufacturers are now working in tandem to let businesspeople keep chugging away at their work – no matter where business takes them.
