Printers are instrumental to modern business – it is almost impossible to image the modern office without them. However, when they malfunction, they can become a source of great frustration. A simple jam can bring the day to a screeching halt, leaving tempers frayed and causing instant bottlenecks for scores of employees.
In popular culture, printer errors have been satirized and parodied, echoing the great vexation felt by anyone who has ever tried to troubleshoot a seemingly incomprehensible paper jam problem. In a memorable scene from the cult 1999 movie Office Space, three disgruntled white-collar workers take out their frustrations on a frequently jamming printer, smashing it to smithereens with baseball bats.
But can manufactures do anything to help – such as developing anti-jamming hardware solutions? Well, Samsung seeks to create office tech with reduced jamming risks, and a range of troubleshooting solutions to help if a jam should occur. And here is how it all works.
Beating the Heat (and Cold)
Those who live in hot, humid climates tend to experience more jam-related frustration than most. Conditions like these can affect the paper in your office, leaving it damp and warped before it gets fed into the printer, or even causing pages to stick together. This can hinder many devices, causing machinery to become blocked – and triggering dreaded printer jams.
Fortunately, Samsung incorporates technology that helps its multi-function and conventional printers fight back against muggy weather.
For instance, many Samsung Mono Laser printers are equipped with Moisture-absorbing Fusers. These heat-dry paper before executing print jobs, significantly reducing the chances of paper jams.
Such devices also feature powerful Paper Pick-up Roller features. With strong pulling mechanisms, they straighten warped paper, cutting down on jams – and the amount of headaches your staff has to suffer!
The Samsung MultiXpress 7 (MX7) series, meanwhile, is equipped with printer column-mounted fans, which dry paper before it is fed into the device. And its Airflow System regulates temperatures in the engine chamber, maintaining optimal temperature levels and eliminating another potential cause of jams.
Samsung printers are also cool customers in wintry climes. The innovative C30 seriesuses a “slow start” process, automatically reducing its motor’s rotations per minute rate when booting up on cold days. This lets the printer’s fusing unit’s temperature rise to an optimized level every time, regardless of the office climate. That, in turn, increases grease viscosity – narrowing the margin for error.
What if you could sidestep the hassle of frequent paper jams and get on with your work day instead? Samsung printers are designed to allow you to do precisely that – and not just in hot or cold weather conditions.
The MX7, for instance, is fitted with Pre-Regi and Pre-Feed Control features – yet more anti-jamming technology. The former helps correct or straighten your print materials before any actual printing takes place, preventing not only print jams, but also potential skews and creases. The Pre-Feed function, meanwhile, reduces jam risks by controlling the speed at which paper is fed into your printer.
And should a jam occur, the Easy Jam Control function lets you remove paper from devices with a minimum of fuss. Even if paper gets stuck in a hard-to-reach spot, Easy Jam Control helps move the problematic sheet to a more reachable spot – for more straightforward removal.
Likewise, many Samsung Mono Laser printers are equipped with Auto Paper Jam Recovery functionality. That means that all you have to do is open and shut the device’s top cover to remove the jammed paper and get back to printing – restarting from the page where the jam occurred.
In many cases, prolonged usage can leave printers more susceptible to jamming than newer devices. Not so in the case of the MX7, however. This series’ longevity architecture technology helps safeguard engines against the wear and tear of years of intense office usage.
Indeed, high-volume printers like Korea’s Woo Jung Copy Center attest, “Samsung printers experience fewer jams than our other devices. As they don’t malfunction, we can better meet our customers’ deadlines.”
Farewell to Frustration
Printer jams are a common source of frustration for staff, and a drain on companies’ time and resources – a reason why minimizing them is of the utmost importance. Industry Analysts’ rigorous 1 million page test of the MX7 did not run into a single jam issue before a full 330,000 pages had been printed. The results led Andy Slawetsky, President of Industry Analysts, to state, “The MX7 is certainly about the most reliable [printer] I’ve ever used.”
And this sort of reliability is now indispensable in modern office environments, where printer jams – and the frustrations they bring – should no longer be a daily blight.
